What's going on?

I've noticed a trend lately. It seems everyone is making their blog "by invitation only!"

Why? Are you getting nasty comments?
Are you writing crazy stuff you don't want your mom to read?
Or ...are you shunning me? :)

If you've gone private, let me in on the reason. And if you like me (even though I'm nosy)...
LET ME IN!!

My door is always open but I've also noticed that about a few bloggers!

I think it happens on and off. I am a bit careful about what I write so as not completely offend family and friends but for the most part, what you see is what you get and ALL can see. :)

i know! i visited a new blog a month ago or so and liked it, commented and then the next time I went, it was "by invitation only"... um.... can you say rejection? Was my comment weird? No. But it made me feel self concious. What's wrong with getting too many readers? There is still an element of anonymity in the blogosphere so I don't get it either, unless it's creepy commenters. I'll never go private! I want all the new readers I can get.

I've thought about going that way because my ex's wife obsessively reads my blog. But I'm afraid nobody would stick around to read me!

ooh, dysfunctional, that is too weird. i wouldn't blame you at all. that is crrrreeeepy!

I've noticed that, too! What's the point of blogging if you only want to limit your readers to those that will only say nice things to you? Insecurity or snobbery? Take your pick...

Some of my reads have gone private, too. Probably the same ones you're thinking of. Oh, well, shut out ... the story of my life lately!

I had to go private after a mentally ill person at my church lurked and made threats against me and my children. It was the first problem I'd had in five years of blogging. I don't like being private, certainly not rejecting anyone, but it was either that or give it up entirely. Anyone who wants to be a reader ( if you're not psycho) can email me at sewliturgicalATgmail.com.

It's not the far away crazy people who bother me, because I don't post about my location, but the locals!

I noticed a few on allmed had gone set to 'private' then i thought why friggin join allmed if you are gonna lock your door?

At my place the door is always open 24/7,never closed not even on holidays...I am like game crazy only better!

I'm not sure either - I thought the whole point of blogging was to have an open door, but I guess some people may say things on their blogs they don't want other people to hear. I just try to sensor myself. :-)

First I'd heard of this (but then I just discovered your fun blog today.)
Actually, I'm trying to set up a blog myself and was wondering if making it 'private' would make it easier to keep it from getting hacked. Any ideas? And what has anyone heard about the different groups (Blogger, Vox, etc.) as far as ease of set up, etc.
Thanks, everyone...as you can tell, I'm kind of a tech-idiot. :-)

I went private because my students found my fiancee on Facebook and tried to friend him! I'm worried it's only a matter of time till they find my blog, and since I talk about them, I'd be mortified and probably in trouble if they found it! I *really* didn't want to go private, but I was super worried about my students....

If you want in, send me an e-mail and I will invite you! Missie1284@gmail.com

While I try not to type anything I wouldn't say aloud, it still made me whig out when I found out several of my neighborhood acquaintances were reading my blog but never, ever mentioning it to me.

So, yeah, it was my insecurity... but not meant to be snobbery... I emailed everyone I had contact info for to offer them an invite and have allowed my profile to show an email address where people can and do let me know they'd like to read!

Blogger was so kind and even allowed me to have more than the usual 100 readers limit.

Don't worry, it's not about you, it's about them- the blog author (but I take it personally sometimes, too).

I am a new blogger. I don't tell people I blog because I might want to talk about them. I usually tell stories about myself. Pleae don't go private, I enjoy reading you, I have no idea who you are but you are entertaining. I wish more people would read my blog and comment. I try to watch my mouth since I am known to cuss often.
