Some nights I lie awake and ponder...

Why oh why do men feel the need to take 5 minutes to back into a parking spot "because it makes pulling out quicker?"

Help me out here, I've gotta get some sleep!

Footnote:  I'm reading your comments and determining that backing into a parking spot isn't exclusively a "guy thing."  I'm still wondering though...WHY?

bc they want to make sure they can make a fast getaway. trust me. my husband told me this. he said, 'just in case.'

i don't even want to know why he would need to make a fast getaway.

It's a mystery of the ages. We could drive ourselves mad trying to figure this out

And why will they wait 5 minutes when they could have walked into the store/business by then anyhew? I give up!

Cause they are"BACKWARD"
Behind others in progress or development

hmmm...I do that when I have the chance to do it- but I don't take 5 minutes backing in. I am convinced I drive better in reverse than in drive- I could be like one of those drivers in the movies and be chased in reverse and I would be totally ok with it.

Mine is so picky that he passes up the first 3-5 places he sees because well, I don't know why. I think he doesn't notice them and then acts like he's searching for better. I'm the queen of great spots. Sometimes he backs in, sometimes not.

My husband doesn't usually back in to spots, but he says that it's to keep the kids on their toes.

Because if pulling backing out while pretending we're Batman man is just stupid.

LOL! My dad is the biggest offender! He always backs in (same reasoning) PLUS parks in the furthest spot from where we're going. Why? "To avoid all of the traffic getting out of the lot." Weirdo.

My husband always claims that it makes it easier to leave the space. He doesn't have to worry about backing over someone because they are in the blind spot. It makes sense when we're in a busy grocery store parking lot with all of the smaller children.

Who knows!
I can barely park my tank going forward, so you'll never see me doing that!

If it takes them 5 minutes to back in then they have no business trying. Lol. I back in occasionally, but it never takes more than a minute. Lol.

This is my huge pet peeve. DOTR does it all the time.

The only time I'm pulling straight out is if I pulled through the parking place so I was facing forward (I do try to do that, although now not so much since I'm not driving a tank anymore).

LOL I never realized that, but oh my gosh, good point! I will say that when I pick up the boy from school, I do back in, the parking lot is so cramped and I can't back up very well....I have proof of that...I hit the garage door, the fence at school countless times, the awning pole at school...oh and I even hit our truck with my car once too. So I feel it's better to back in when there are no small kids around, than after the bell rings and they are everywhere...safety first;)

We as a family have decided that there are drivers who are "backer-inners", "pull-throughers" and regular parkers.

We are not sure why, but it does seem to be a mystery. and it does drive me crazy.
