In the news...

There are a couple of stories in the news this week that really fired me up.

The first is the family in Western Jersey who were outraged that a local Shop rite supermarket would not decorate a cake for their son, named Adolf Hitler Campbell. Apparently this isn't the first time the Shop rite refused to make a cake for their son. Last year they requested a swastika be placed on the cake as decoration.

The child's father is LIVID that the supermarket refused to do the cake. After all, "it's just a name. He's not going to do what Hitler did."

Come on buddy, don't bullshit us. You name your son Adolf Hitler, and your daughters JoyceLynn Aryan Nation and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie and you expect no one is going to be outraged. You're an asshole and a Nazi. 'Nuff said.

The second story is regarding New York State Governor David Patterson's new budget plan which includes a 15% obesity tax on non diet soft drinks. OBESITY TAX? WTF? Once again, the government is going a little too far with this one. Why stop at taxing soda? You might as well have daily weigh ins for the citizens of New York State. If you are over the healthy limit for your height, you have to give the state a dollar. Let's take it one step further, if you are underweight you pay an emaciation tax. A dollar a day until you get up to a healthy weight. Maybe an ugly tax. If you aren't deemed good looking enough, another dollar.

That should help solve the budget deficit. IDIOTS.

And finally, Caroline Kennedy is gunning for the Senate seat being vacated by Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Granted, she is from a great political family, she went to Harvard and has a law degree. But she is NOT experienced. She's a socialite and philanthropist, but she is not a politician. It's a nice idea to have another Kennedy in the Senate. But c'mon people...there are other people who deserve it far more than she does and who have years of experience working for the state of New York. If she gets handed the seat it's nepotism pure and simple.

In summary, Nazis, stupid taxes and preferential treatment annoy me. I know that they are all facts of life, but it doesn't make it right!!
What do YOU think?

I've been following all three stories on news radio, on my way to school. First the name one is just shameful. What those poor kids will have to go through all their lives(or until they can change them). Second it seems just rude to have an obesity tax, why not a single parent tax, or too many children tax? Why can't the governments just learn better money management. And the third one I just plain agree with you.

My favorite was the father of little Adolf told reporters that he wasn't racist he just chooses not to associate with people of other races.

If NY is going to pay for my trainer they can tax me for buying a Coke once in awhile! Otherwise, I'll take a JUMBO Coke WITH a Whopper, please!

I could not agree more! Ignorant parents get more press than the lack of charity giving this season. Sad.

The birthday cake story had me fired up too...those poor children...

And I so agree with you on Caroline Kennedy...but she would be better than Fran, the Nanny!

OMG.

I'm just saying.

I agree with you on all but the Caroline Kennedy part. I actually think she'd bring some respect to the seat.

The whole cake Nazi thing is close to here and it is crazy. I am waiting for the news article that social services visited these people and found things.

I have seen these stories as well and it just makes ya go WTF!

I agree with everything including Caroline Kennedy. I think she's well educated and a great candidate in a traditional voting election. However, first she backed Obama for President, and now she wants Clinton's seat. Good luck getting that backing!

I heard about that story with the man whose son is Adolf Hilter. Holy schmoly - that man shouldn't have been allowed to procreate! How about licenses for procreation? Could you get on board with that? And they could charge a fee ($40?) for the license, hence the state would make up the money instead of an obesity tax. I also agree with you there - that is stupid.

I disagree with you on Caroline Kennedy. I agree that she might not be considered without the last name, but if you look at her accomplishments on their merit, she is qualified. One doesn't have to be a politician to be qualified for the senate. In fact, I wish we had more non-politicians in gov't in Washington. People who have been politicians their whole life don't always have the answers. But then I'm wholeheartedly FOR term limits! Term limits would make sure there were no more career politicians and thus everyone would have similar qualifications to Ms. Kennedy.

Good post!

Free Speech is a tricky thing. They have a right to name their child anything they want. They have a right to have a belief system that the majority finds intolerable. However, the store has a right to refuse service or refuse to participate.

I've gained quite a bit of weight over the past few years because of illness and some of the medicines I have had to take. They do tax other luxury items. However, I believe this is just another revenue source rather than a way to help people lose weight.

As far as Caroline...I'm from beleaguered Illinois. Remember, the most important thing is ethics and integrity. Experience is not always the most important thing.

TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU ON ALL 3!!

I agree with you on all three. It's fun to see Caroline out there but after living a life that shies away from the press, I find it hard to imagine seeing her out there. I don't think she'll go through with it.

Agree. Agree. Agree. The tax one just cracks me up. Really? I guess we can choose to do whatever we want with our bodies except get fat! Pass me my Dr. Pepper!

That obesity tax takes the cake; pun intended. I agree with JyLnC; it's probably more of a revenue-generating thing than an actual attempt at curbing obesity. And where do you stop?

And with Caroline Kennedy...I agree that there are plenty of non-recognizable-name people out there who could probably do a way better job. But, a part of me just wants to see her succeed...her family has not had the best time of it!

OMG. Had no idea about the first two stories. What A hole parents would name their kid that? That is child abuse. Dicks. And obesity tax! You gotta be kidding me. I think the skinny anorexics in LA should be charged a "eat a damn sandwich" tax!

Anonymous said...

Hey what's wrong with those darling names??

I kid, I kid!!! Seriously, hat kind of derelicts name their kids after evil people? How horrible. And to say that it's "just a name". Whatever.

Oh, and I hope whoever DID make their cake made it "special" for them. lol, wink, wink.

The stupid parents may have the right to free speech, and they absolutely do--but the rest of us are also free to think they are jackasses.

Since yet another one of my governors is going to prison, I think a non-politician in office is a great idea!

I read those two stories too...even though we left NJ most of those stories trickle over to CT. I think Jersey needs an asshole tax...

Belle (from Life of a...) said...

I hadn't heard about the first story...what's wrong with people. I hope the kids have the good sense to change their names when they're old enough...that is if the parents haven't brainwashed them to the point of no return.

i'm with YOU. I didn't hear about the whole Nazi thing (those people are FUCKED up) but I am a bit dismayed at C. Kennedy's boldness.

CAroline Kennedy would be an asset not a detriment to the Senate.
Her life experiences her interest in the arts and education and yes being part of a politcal family qualify her.
She isn't pompous she hasn't had a tainted past.
She has compassion has gone through adversity.
She wouldn't buy her seat.
Don't dismiss her so quickly.

Lil Adolph's Dad an absolute idiot who should have been castrated so that he couldn't father innocent children and subject them to his insanity.

Love you Jill

Adolph's dad can suck it.

Hadn't heard of the obesity tax... but they put sin taxes on cigarettes and alcohol right? Why not? Half our country is overweight and we end up carrying their fat asses on our health insurance policies... just sayin'.

And Caroline Kennedy... I think she just might surprise you.

What I think is especially telling is that the Hitler family had their cake made at Wal-Mart. Apparently Wal-Mart embraces Nazis. What a surprise.

I feel sorry for the poor Hitler children. Ugh.
Seriously, obesity tax? You can't start and end with sugared soda. That would open up a huge can of worms.
Geez. Some people need to be smacked!

That first one is absolutely ridiculous! Those people should be investigated by social services. Seriously.
