Say hello to my little poll!

As you can see in my sidebar, I've put together a little poll. If you haven't voted yet, please do! And while you're at it, let us know which one you voted for, and why.

As I was putting together the questions it got me thinking about what's most important to me, my looks, my sense of duty, my brains, or my finances.

Ideally I could have all four of these attributes and be a hot looking lady, who volunteers at a soup kitchen, has a PhD and a bank account that would make the Rockefellers jealous. I hate to tell you this, but I do know a few people who fit this description. (I hate every single one of them!)

Since I could only pick one, I chose "that woman is brilliant!" Why? Don't ask me...I'm not smart enough to articulate it. I voted for what I WANT people to say, not what they ACTUALLY say.

But seriously, I've been studying quite a bit of Buddhism, and one of the highest places you can get to is to be independent of the good opinions of others. In other words, what we think of ourselves should matter way more that what other people think of us. But that's a whole 'nother post. (As a matter of fact, that's an entire doctoral thesis!)

And since I'm just a little old housewife with a Bachelor of Arts degree, I'll leave those deep thoughts to the great philosophers.

Sooo, fess up! Which one did you vote for? Don't worry, we won't judge you. And even if we do, you don't care what we think...right?!

I voted for "she does so much for the community". I think more than anything else it's important to be a good and giving person. I know I'm smart...I don't need others to say that I am. But now it seems like I want them to look at me because I'm giving. But that's not it, either. I just think that the most important thing I can do is to be there for others.
I hope I articulated that clearly enough because I feel like I just wrote myself in circles! :)

I voted for the community. While I wish I too could have all four and wish that people would tell me I'm beautiful and smart, those things don't mean much if I don't believe them too. If I don't see that I am beautiful and smart, I'm less likely to truly accept those compliments.

However, if I'm working to do for the community and people are noticing... then, I'll feel like I'm going in the right direction and my efforts have been worthwhile. Change is being made and I am helping to create that change.

I hope that's clear... and thanks for your kind words!! Truly!

funny i voted for the brains. i rather be smart- 'cause if you're smart, you are more than likely to figure out how to get money (if motivated), and then you'd obviously help out!

ok wait I forgot to ask you- last week I played tennis every single day- as a result I got a blister in my hand- have you ever gotten one? I can't figure out how to bandage it without it falling off. I play today and it's almost healed but I dont want it to hurt- I changed my grip to see if it helps but I already change it every other week as it is. any suggestions?

I love the Buddhist philiosophy. Although he is not a Buddhist in any way, my hubby is a pro at not caring at all what the world thinks. He just goes his merry way and I would love to be more like him. It's hard for me, but I try!!
P.S. I absolutely can't make up my mind which one to choose. My huddy would say "I don't care!", but I want them all...

The only place I really wanted to put my "dot" was in the "All of the Above." Unfortunately, I had to choose another option, so I picked that all I want is to be just "freakin' beautiful." Shallow, I know, but age is creeping up on me, and I'm noticing new lines on the face everyday, so beautiful seems to be at the forefront of my mind lately.

I voted for beauty. Because I'm shallow.

Money. No question. I want to have so much it doesn't even matter to me.

The kind of money that you can do incredible and life changing things for other people.

Hmmm, what does that say about me?

Oh I voted for the brilliance. That one jumped out at me for some reason. I think it's the highest compliment!

I know I am an intelligent girl, so I don't need the reassurance on that one. the community-thing is not so big on my list; if I'm gonna help out in the community then I don't need the recognition about it. The money was almost my answer, b/c that would mean that obviously have enough money that people notice it, and I could use the cash. But I haven't felt very beautiful" in a while, so that'd be nice to hear. Well, that's my ten cents. lol.

I'm in the next-to-smallest group....'she does so much for the community'. I don't care about being loaded, and as long as I'm beautiful to my hubby it's all good. Intelligence is great, but what you do with it matters more to me.

I went with the brains. I figure if I was that smart I would have the $ and with that $ I could pay for the beauty ;) I really wouldn't want so many people telling others of my communal service. :o) Have a great day!

I voted for smarts. I may not be brilliant, but I have a fairly sharp mind, and I would rather someone recognize me for my mind than for other external attributes or circumstances. It's more who I am than what I have.

I voted smart, apparently like everyone else. I think you should post on WHY such already intelligent women would want to be recognized as such? Interesting...

I took your poll and checked the brilliant comment. I figure if people really think you are smart you can baffle them with your BS and they will never know.
