I am completely partial to people who like my dogs. If you walk in my house and make a fuss over my pets , pet them and tell me how cute they are, I like you better.
When people come over and look a little disgusted and freaked out, I make a mental note of it.
My children's friends who like dogs are invited over far more often than their dog hating cohorts.
When a child takes one look at my dogs and starts screaming and running away, it seriously bums me out.
I know it's wrong, but it's just the way it is.

Um, yeah. I hate the 'fraidy cat kids who go running away from my 38 pound beagley mutt. Granted, he's a little barky, but by the time you've been over 10 times and realize he's only barking because the doorbell rang, I kind of expect you to get over it already.
Love me, love my dogs... end of story.
Yeah, I can be shallow about that too.
And got you message about the "thing" on my blog. Doing the same.
I think its a pefectly acceptable way to judge people. I had somebody swat at my dog the first time they came over (for sniffing his foot... my lil' baby wasn't even jumping on him). Lets just say from that moment on I knew he was a jerk, and it turned out he truly was. Pets are a part of your family, people just need to learn to accept that!
Dogs and other animals are actually a very good judge of character. If a dog doesn't like you, there's generally a pretty good reason why.
I'm not much of a dog person. I like to pet them and really appreciate puppy kisses, but the whole sniffing of my crotch just bugs me, ya know?
Its true dogs are a good judge of character! But I agree I feel the same way....how can you not love a dog!
i love dogs and when i see a dog (i prefer big ones) i make a fuss, the lady i am working iwht on a charity has a wonderful big old dog and i swear i can't stop fussing over her when i go there. i actaully think the lady is annoyed at me for it.
however, i don't want the mess so i am steering clear (for right now) if we get a dog, i want a bulldog
so your saying when i went to my friends daughters bday party and walked in the door and said....'ohhhhh theres little people everywhere' that may be why i was never invited back? LOL I love dogs and kiddos
Having been bitten by dogs twice I am somewhat shy around them. I don't hate them, I just get nervous until I get to know them.
So please think about that before making your judgement.
My dog, Molly lets me know who is good and who is mean: if she pees on your feet, she likes you, if she sniffs you and walks away, forget it!

you're not the only one! if i had pets (i used to but i'm not allowed at this apartment i live in), i would totally be the same way.
My dogs are great for keeping people away from my house. Not because they are mean--they are not--or because they are big--they are--
but because they sit on the couch, dirty up the place--etc
And I like it that way.
Ah, I love you. I am the same way. I know I shouldn't be, but I can't help it. It's just the way it is.
I'm right there with ya! You'd love me. I'd pay more attention to the dogs than you or your kids. LOL!
As long as you use more than just that method to judge people there won't be any backlash. It seems a little shallow if that's the only method you use to judge people.
People may be allergic to dogs, or they may have encountered unpleasant experiences with dogs which make them not fall all over your dog at first sight.
I love animals of all types. Puppies and small to mid size dogs are no problem for me. However, I was attacked by a German Shepard when I was 5 or 6 and large dogs do elicit a reaction from me. If you have a large dog I would be cautious...that's how it is.
Keep in mind that there are quite a few people who judge owners who don't control their dogs from jumping and barking when guests arrive. We had a terrier who barked at every thing that moved no matter what we did. I'm sure our neighbors and guests wanted to strangle us.
I'm not shallow in most departments, and I feel bad if people are afraid of dogs because they had a bad experience.
And yes, some people judge others if they have jumpy, yippy dogs. No matter how much I love dogs, I too hate when they sniff my crotch.
I'll lock my dogs up if people are afraid. I have lots of friends who don't like dogs and I prefer socializing with them outside my home. They probably like it better that way too!!!
I do stand by my initial premise. I like people a little better if they like my dogs. SORRY!
I am the same way.
This may sound bad but a friend of mine little girl always screams and has a fit when they come over so we stoppped asking them over. It was to much for me and the dogs to handle every.single.time she walked in the door.
I'm with NJDecorator on this one...
I had a terrible experience being cornered by a Great Dane as a child. The terror is still as fresh to me today as it was at six. Logically, I know that most dogs are friendly, but I have an instant fear reaction whenever I see one. It's not like I can't be around them, just that it takes me a bit to calm down and get to know them.
Add to that a delightful dog allergy that has developed since my first pregnancy...the two things together conspire to make me a cat person. :)
We have two big dogs (100 lbs each) and I know that they can be overwhelming, but they are a part of our family....so yeah, it is a pain if kids are scared of them. I don't like having to put them outside, or "lock them up" upstairs because they freak out, since they are not used to not being around their people. We usually don't end up having those kids back over either.
It just makes life easier to have people who "get" your dogs as friends. I completely understand, got to go my dog is scratching on the door!!!
