I have so much worthless crap on my mind...

Thanks for participating in my children's name study.  Look for my book, "Bloggy Baby Names" which will hopefully be available at your local bookstore real soon.  If for some reason, no publishing house wants my book, I will compile a formal, in depth report on my findings sometime in the near future.  As a matter of fact, I'm taking this subject over to Collage.  Let us know why you picked your children's names.  Inquiring minds want to know!

Unfortunately I will not be able to write my report on identity theft.  Not one of you sent me the data I requested.  I'm not sure why you you didn't feel comfortable sharing personal information with me, but I'm going to work harder to gain your trust.

Now, on to the next subject.  Here is a question I've been pondering...

What do you think it takes to get mucho comments on a blog?  Does it require writing scintillating, titillating and thought provoking posts?  Or, does it require spending lots of time hopping from blog to blog leaving comments (or "spreading your seed" as I like to call it)?

Let's discuss.

I think ending blogs with questions like this one helps. Also humor people can relate to.
Rants people can join in on. Giveways seem to be the jackpot.

How to get lots of comments on your blog:
1. Tell everyone it's your birthday
2. Write something short and controversial.
3. Give stuff away

If you figure out what it takes to get comments left on blogs, let me know. : )

Seriously, I think you and 2 other people are the only ones who read mine. : ) *Le sigh* At least the blog is cheaper than therapy.

Hi everyone. It's me. Dr Zibbs. Let me give you my input on comments because I love comments. In June, I started commenting on multiple blogs and that's when I saw the number of hits increase 10 fold. I also got many more comments. Also, asking readers questions or posting about other bloggers gets lots of comments (see my blogger calendar post). And lastly, when your thieving readers can get something for free, like when I offered to give everyone a nickname, they also come out of the woodwork.

...and one more thing, it doesn't hurt to have great content - like the content on my amazing, award winning, West Chester based blog THAT BLUE YAK.

i ask questions all the time, no one bothers to comment...lol my hair could be on fire and no one would come to my aid...no body likes me, everybody hates me....im gonna go eat worms...hugs and prayers....

I think "spreading the seed" helps - I've noticed that my comments have decreased ever since I've had less time to comment on other blogs. I also think writing about things people can identify with brings out a lot of commentary...

Well, I couldn't begin to tell you how to get comments on your blog. I have no idea what makes some hideous blogs a hit and some perfectly wonderful blogs, not a hit. But I'll tell you something, when I leave a message in a blog its because I was really moved to do so. I like the writer to know that what they said really interested me. I try to put some meat into my comment, as if the person was sitting in front of me and we were having a chat. Usually when I find a blog like that I add it to my blog list and I vist often. Still, I don't comment in every post. Only if the subject moves me, whatever it may be. I do leave my blog's name next to my name. Maybe someone finds what I say interesting and wants to visit me. Or maybe the owner of the blog where I'malk commenting wants to say something back. I'd say just talk about whatever tickles your fancy

I'm just wondering what kind of Google traffic you're gonna get for typing the word "titillating". LOL!! ;-)

My most commented posts are the giveaways. And speaking of, wait til tonight's giveaway post is unveiled!

I also respond to questions. I hate to leave a question unanswered.

And, I do blog hop and comment when I feel moved.

I think it's a bit of everything. It's all about networking, then when people "re-comment' you and you have something, anything to keep people interested then they return and read more. Then it grows, slowly.

That's something I always wonder about, too. When I think something is pretty funny or touching...zilch. Post a picture of a pumpkin and you've got 25 comments.

I'm branching out to different kinds of blogs, too...not just mommy blogs, preppy blogs, decorating blogs, etc. I have a few men on my blogroll and I comment on their blogs quite a bit (what does that say about me?)

There are a couple of blogs that have huge followings and I just can't figure it out. To each his/her own, I guess.

I do check sitemeter and I get a lot of repeat visitors that I know never comment, so at least I feel like I'm not completely out there talking to myself. But I mainly get comments when I complain about my bratty sons or post pictures of my house. I really can't do that everyday (well, I could complain about my bratty sons everyday, but I shouldn't....)

I think being a loyal commenter on other blogs has gotten me the most comments (not that there are THAT many, but the most for ME).

I agree with Dysfunctional Mom, I think the majority of my comments come from blogs that I read regularly. I have a small but great little group of commenters. :)
