It's been 8 days since I adopted our newest family member and what a week it has been.
Granted, I've had puppies before, but this is the first time I've attempted it with 2 children, a demanding husband (no offense), 2 dogs a cat and a recently remodeled house. It adds quite a bit to the degree of difficulty.
My life pretty much goes like this...
Wake up tired from getting up at 2 am and taking puppy out, take Buddy out of crate. Take him outside.
Feed Buddy, take him out again, or clean up poop or pee if he doesn't make it out in time.
Soothe 5 year old daughter who was wrestling with Buddy and got bit on the finger..HARD with his sharp little teeth.
Pull shoe out of Buddy's mouth.
Pull crayon out of Buddy's mouth.
Pull curtain out of Buddy's mouth.
Feed kids breakfast.
Take them upstairs to get dressed. Hear barking. Buddy is stuck behind the dresser. Wedge him out.
Brush teeth, brush hair, realize we are running REALLY late. Run around yelling.
Pack lunches while holding puppy with one hand.
Throw puppy in crate and rush out the door.
Repeat, over and over and over again EVERYDAY.
(For variety throw in occasional trips to the vet and Petsmart.)
This is the life of a girl who didn't get married until she was 33. Who loved hanging out reading books, going to brunch with friends, and generally slacking at my leisure.
I did laundry when I felt like it. I ordered in. I partied like a rock star. And sometimes I got really lonely.
Those days are over. No more slacking. 2 loads of laundry a day. And always surrounded by little creatures, begging for my attention.
Would I trade my current life for my carefree bacholorette days? Hell no! All those parties, weekends at the beach and goofing around with friends was TORTURE.
I love chasing puppies, vacuuming, cooking, loading the dishwasher, unloading the dishwasher, grocery shopping, cleaning out litter boxes, I LOVE IT!!!!
Do I desperately need a Girl's Night Out? FUCK YEAH!!!! (OOOPS...excuse my language, I'm really tired....really, really tired, like about to SNAP tired...Don't worry about me, I'll be okay.)
Anyway, as I was saying. My life is great. Now pass me a valium and a big glass of vodka.

ahhhhhhhhh I remember the puppy days. The only thing that kept me from killing him is that he was so damned cute! As far as the valium and vodka... I'd be happy to share... if I had any left.
Just remember, he can only chew up your $300 shoes for so long
Thank you for the reminders... I was thinking about getting a new puppy too. I think I'll wait.
I think that's why I am a cat person. So much easier. But he's such a cute little pug!
It's nice how the chaos answers all the prayers and wishes we never realized we had, isn't it?
I saw a man walking a mini Yorkie yesterday and my heart ACHED for one!! I may want one more than I want a third child....although your play by play of your day did help to sway me just a bit! :)
Hey I got married at 38. I'm having a reality check. The single mom thing I had down pat- the having a husband to 'take care of' not so much.
My trained 6 year old trained dog makes me so happy right now.
1. You need to get on the next jet plane to SC ASAP and we can get the drink on. 2. I need the recipe for the Black Eyed Susan things---yes, you should get scared for me, because I'm thinking of getting on the crazy train Saturday!! Can I get a toot toot?!
seriously BITCH I hear your pain if I don't get out of this house of WHOREMONEs I don;t know what I am going to do and we've had our dog for a year !
ruh-roh!
Now I'm scared to get a puppy!
Yep. Puppies are like infants.
no dog for us
Oh goodness... you are a new puppy owner for sure. New puppies break in sooner than new babies... plus you won't have to get the puppy braces or pay college tuition....
It's a pathetic stab at perspective, but I thought I would try...
Sounds like you need a girls weekend away at a spa or Vegas!
Wouldn't trade my crazy days for bachlerotte days. It gets nuts, but it's all worth it. Thanks for reminding me why I don't want another puppy.
oooh I still remember those days. They're tough, but once they're trained, it's wonderful.
Of course NOW my pugs love to sneak upstairs and pee on my carpet that we put in 2 years ago....what's up with that?
So in some ways it never ends. Oops, sorry to bring that up. Lol.
Just reading all that made me tired.
You could give crate training a try...some puppies actually like the security of having their own space. Dogs are den animals.
Good luck!!
ahhh youth...
i remember my first shoe..
This time in your life will fly by. Enjoy the puppy. Enjoy the kids. Soon life will be different again. This is what life is all about.
